5 time saving tips to growing your hair

Here are the Top 5 easy time saving tips from our Salon director Caroline on how to grow your hair.

NUMBER 1: OVERNIGHT HAIR MASK

Who has time to sit in the bath with a hair mask on? I know I don’t!  

That why I use an overnight mask so I can save time on my hair care routine & heal split ends whilst I sleep.  

There are many options out there but make sure you get one that you can apply to dry hair (it’s not nice going to bed with wet hair) and ensure it won’t make your hair heavy or greasy when you wake up.  

My go to product is: JOICO DEFY DAMAGE SLEEP OVER  

This is an overnight bond strengthening treatment that nourishes your hair whilst you sleep, it doesn’t leave a residue and does not need to be rinsed out in the morning. 

  • Apply small amount to dry hair before bed.
  • Comb through
  • Wake up with softer smoother hair and style as normal.

NUMBER 2: TAKE YOUR VITAMINS

I know, I don’t like taking supplements either but sadly the modern diet doesn’t always give us the correct number of vitamins we need to promote healthy hair growth.

We all need sufficient amounts of Biotin, B12, Zinc, L-Lysine, MSM, Niacin, B5 & B6, & Vitamin C in order for our hair to thicken and grow.

NUMBER 3: BUY A NEW BRUSH

A hairbrush is like a toothbrush! It needs replacing after a while! I bet you have one in your draw that you have had for years, right?

It is so important that you have a brush that is gentle on your hair and doesn’t pull when you’re brushing it through. An old brush can be the root cause of snapping hair and split ends.

PRO TIPS 

*ARE YOU BRUSHING IT PROPERLY?

We don’t often get taught how to brush our hair but there is actually a proper way to do it!

  • Hold your hair as if it were in a ponytail and gently brush through the ends first, gradually working your way up as you loosen the knots.
  • Never brush knots out directly from the roots first as this will just cause more knots further down your hair. 

NUMBER 4: USE A GOOD HEAT PROTECTOR

If you dry your hair with a hairdryer or use heat tools on your hair this Tip is IMPERATIVE if you want to grow your hair!

Every time we dry and style our hair without protection, we are basically burning it! Over time this will leave it looking dull, dry and snappy (even if you only do it once a week) 

By putting on a small amount of heat protection each time you dry your hair you will be giving your hair moisture and protection, just like our skin needs this our hair needs it too.

There are loads of products out there but heres what you need to know.

  • It needs to be weightless, so it does not make your hair greasy.
  • It needs to protect to at least 220 degrees (some don’t)
  • It needs to be free of heavy silicones as this builds up a nasty plastic layer on your hair stopping colours from working and making the ends of your hair look dull.

Here is my favourite heat product I use on myself and in the salon every day.

NUMBER 5: CONSUME MORE WATER

This one an absolute must for rapid hair growth. We would not expect a plant to grow without watering it would we? 

The same applies to hair. We know that 2 litres a day is best for us but sometimes it feels like a chore to achieve that doesn’t it?  

Here are my top tips to consuming water easily.

  • Always keep a sports top bottle with you. This way its easier to take a regular swig without having to get up and pour yourself a glass. 

I love the Evian sports top water bottles they fit in my hand perfectly and I know if I have at least 2 of them a day I am on the right track! I just refill it from the tap when I am done and change the bottle weekly.

  • Choose watery fruit & veg as a snack such as melon or cucumber the high-water content in these foods will help keep you hydrated and add to your daily water intake.
  • If you don’t like boring old water, look for a flavoured protein powder to add to your water. I get the orange & mango flavour from www.myprotein.com. It tastes delicious and gives you that much needed protein to help you grow your hair. 
  • The pee challenge! The easiest way to know if you have consumed enough water is to check the colour of your pee after lunch …If it’s clear you’re on the right track to hitting your daily water intake! Keep it going until after tea and give yourself a pat on the back.
